Choosing the right jewelry for you goes far beyond how it looks to you, or it makes you feel. Some people have allergies some metals, which helps to understand what to monitor whether your skin is very sensitive, or if you are prone to allergies. Spence Diamonds In our showrooms, we are always ready to answer your questions about how the metal allergies may affect you, but in the meantime, here's a little Metal Allergy 101:
In most cases, rashes and skin infections caused by the jewelry is a result of nickel allergy. Have you ever had an itchy red spot under a jean stud or watch the loop? Maybe when you had your ears pierced you develop reaction unusually uncomfortable?
Nickel metal is the cause of most skin rashes. And it is also very commonly used in almost anything metal, for example: jewelry, kitchen utensils, scissors, paper clips, keys and of course the piece by the same name. Nickel has a whiter appearance, so some metals such as white gold, silver and all kinds of silver metal (other than money) and possibly may contain some amount of nickel. 18 or 24 carat yellow gold contains no nickel, but in 10 carat yellow gold May have traces of nickel, too.
How do I know if you have an allergy to nickel?
The first sign of an allergy to nickel is red and itchy skin in the areas who came into contact with metal, as in a ring or necklace. Later, tiny water blisters appear, making the skin moist same oozy, and may even take off. At this point you probably want to be looking for jewelry that works with the skin a little better. If the condition covers a long time, your skin turns red in May, scaly and cracked, and the rash may spread to other areas of your skin, which have never even been in contact with nickel! So it is worthwhile to do your homework on how to avoid such a reaction.
Some Good News, Some Bad News
The bad news first: Once you are sensitive to nickel, you're likely to remain for the rest of your life. The good news is that over time, May you become less susceptible to nickel allergy. But there is hope because there is still much metals that you can safely wear, including 18 and 14 carat gold, sterling silver, and a number of other hypo-allergenic metals. In addition, if you discover an allergy to nickel, with a piece of jewelry, Spence offers Dimaonds an electrochemical process called rhodium plating which coats the ring and protects your fingers from exposure to nickel.
